Although outsourcing is a growing trend in higher and middle income countries, it’s an emerging trend in lower income country settings. Although there are clear theoretical benefits, the true costs and benefits of doing so are not well documented, nor is there a good understanding of the challenges of outsourcing public health supply systems and what conditions are necessary conditions for outsourcing to be successful. The review of the Western Cape Province experience is a small incremental step towards filling this information gap. (Source: TechNet21)
