Helen is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years’ experi-ence working in a product development environment, ten years of which has been in a strategic leadership role. Helen graduated from Kingston University with a degree in Electronic Systems Engineering. From there she joined Brit-ish Rail Research’s graduate program, and working on railway signaling is what launched a career in system safe-ty. Helen developed that knowledge further during a 15-year career at Jaguar Land Rover as Powertrain System Safety Technical Specialist. In 2011, Helen joined Protean Electric to take on a com-panywide product safety role. Protean Electric is a technology company developing in-wheel motors for electric vehicles. As Protean Electric’s global product safety manager, Helen is responsible for developing the safety concepts for the product, but also for promoting the safety processes and culture needed within the business. Helen has pub-lished a number of papers on automotive functional safety and promotes industry best practice through her work as a committee member of MISRA in the UK and the SAE in the States. In 2015 Helen also became a student: researching controllability and the risk to autonomous vehicles at the University of York.
