D. Canty

JD Canty is a Research Fellow with the Center for Emerging Threats and Opportunities (CETO), joining the CETO team in August 2009. Throughout active duty service in the Marine Corps, Mr. Canty served in positions of increasing responsibility across the spectrum of Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) operations to include command at the Squadron and Group levels, and as the Aviation Combat Element Commander for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita relief efforts. Additionally, he served on the Joint Staff in Information Operations and Special Technical Operations and at II MEF as a Regional Plans Officer. He also served as Division Head at MAWTS-1 ,the Marine Corps’ premier air/ground integration institution. Finally, he served as the Director of the Marine Corps War College, guiding the school to JPME II accreditation—the first service level institution to attain this impressive credential.

At CETO he has been actively involved in supporting a variety of research efforts of interest to the Marine Corps to include strategic energy issues, climate change implications for the Naval service, the Counter-IED fight, military innovation, and wider MAGTF matters to include future amphibious warfare.
