Mark Bownas is a UK national who has spent most of his professional career in Hungary. After qualifying as a chartered accountant with KPMG in England, he joined the fledgling practice in Budapest in 1991. A partner since 1 January 1996, Mark has advised a wide variety of international investors in Hungary. During the hi-tech boom of the second half of the 1990s, Mark assisted, as reporting accountant, a number of companies in raising finance on the international capital markets.
Since 2002 Mark’s focus has moved to providing audit and advisory services to captive shared service centres in Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), working with companies such as Avis, BP Celanese, Cemex, Diageo, GE and Vodafone.
Mark is Head of Advisory for KPMG in Hungary as well as a member of the KPMG CEE executive team. He is also a member of KPMG’s Global Sourcing Steering Group.
Mark is married with three children and has an MA (Hons) in German Language and Literature from the University of St Andrews, Scotland.
