Rumi began his career as a Software Engineer in 1978 and joined HSBC in 1987. In a career spanning 23 years with the group, he has held diverse strategic positions across geographies and markets, making a significant impact on the group's technology, software development and service delivery capabilities. Rumi is a passionate technologist and process delivery innovator at heart and applies and entrepreneurial approach at work; venturing into unconventional arenas, tasking risks and breaking silos. He has created teams and nurtured talent to steer one of the most path-breaking and differentiated global service delivery models in the financial services industry.
Following his stint as CIO HSBC Brazil, Rumi was appointed CIO of HSBC Securities and Investment Bank, New York in 2002. He then went on to head HSBC Global Technology Centre (GLT) in India in 2004. As CEO GLT from 2004-2005, Rumi was instrumental in setting up the group's software development capability and creating a global footprint for GLT. After a brief stint as CIO HSBC Bank UK Rumi was appointed CEO of HSBC Global Resourcin in 2007 and in September 2008, he was appointed as Group Head of the Global Service Delivery Organisation. In his current role, Rumi has created a framework and infrastructure for a global service delivery proposition that has significantly enhanced the group's ability to service the customer base more effectively while containing the operational cost base. Under his stewardship, the Global Service Delivery organisation has become a key driver of HSBC's business strategy by providing service excellence to customers at an affordable price point through a global network of Centres of Excellence while creating a world class management and operations team and working with business partners for new opportunities.
