Chris Pedler, GIS Officer, Goldfields - ST IVES, Australia
Chris Pedler holds a Diploma in Spatial Studies from Sydney Institute. His major work involved an analysis of satellite tracking data of the dugong population of Shark Bay, with a view to identifying areas of significance to the species as they moved around the bay over a year, and developing theories as to why these areas were important. Chris has been working in the GIS industry for 5 years, firstly at Sydney Water Plans Management Section, where he was responsible for identifying and cataloguing the plan archive, quality control of the digitised images and development of the data storage system. Chris now works as the GIS Officer at Goldfields St Ives in Kambalda WA, where he is responsible for maintenance of their GIS data. This includes supporting the Exploration, Environmental, Engineering and active mines departments, development of drill planning tools, co-ordinating the exchange of data between different departments and interests, and promoting the use of GIS across the mine site. He also trains new staff in the use of GIS and develops training tools and procedures for GIS usage at St Ives.
