Bob has been the manager of the primary research compound repository at Abbott Laboratories in Abbott Park, Illinois, USA, for the past 12 of his 25 years at Abbott. He started his Abbott career as an electrical engineer in the Diagnostics Division, helping to develop the Vision desktop clinical chemistry analyzer. The following decade was spent in cellular diagnostics R&D with a focus on flow cytometry and automated leukocyte identification. He then changed divisions, joining the Automation Engineering group in Pharmaceutical R&D, and shortly thereafter was asked to lead the team in the A-Room, Abbott’s nickname for their research compound repository. In this capacity he has focused on building the capabilities of the group to enable order of magnitude increases in capacity and throughput, as well as developing an international logistics expertise within the team to support a global research environment and outsourcing initiative. He has degrees in Electrical Engineering Technology from Michigan Technological University and in Management from Cardinal Stritch University.
