Cheryl Hughey is Director of Onboarding in People and Leadership Development at Southwest Airlines. She is responsible for welcoming, mentoring and engaging new hires through their first year. This program helps every new recruit at Southwest embrace the principles of the company and successfully embark on the “flight of their life.” Hughey began her career at Southwest in 1980. She learned her leadership skills from the ground up, working as a Reservations Agent and various frontline positions in ground operations, from Customer Service Agent to Customer Service Training Manager to Director Leadership Training. Hughey’s focus has always been on leading, guiding and serving external and internal customers.
