The sample-centric architecture of most LIMS is a key component to their ability to optimize laboratory operations and keep scientists focused on processing samples in as high quality, non-biased, and efficient a manner as possible. Often overlooked by these laboratory processes however is the importance of high-quality, consistent, and complete metadata related to the studies and subjects from which these samples were obtained. These metadata are critical to the downstream analysis of the experimental data captured in LIMS for complete understanding of disease biology. This presentation will explore the benefits and challenges in developing a metadata management solution that can integrate with existing LIMS and downstream solutions to allow more robust analysis of data across scientific platforms.
