Julien Marin

Julien Marin is Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Novalix. He joined the company in 2006, and, over nearly two decades, has held progressive leadership roles, including Director of Research Services, Business Unit Director for Chemistry, and Head of Synthetic Chemistry. Throughout the first part of his career, Julien oversaw collaborations in research services, primarily in drug discovery, within the pharmaceutical sector, but also in agrochemicals, cosmetics, and fine chemicals. He has led multidisciplinary R&D teams in Belgium, France, and Spain, deployed new services, and played a key role in talent development. Currently, Julien is contributing to developing the Novalix strategic roadmap and ensuring its deployment and implementation across the company. Julien holds a PhD in Chemistry from Strasbourg University and a Master’s degree in Strategic Business Unit Management from HEC Paris. He completed postdoctoral training with S. Hanessian at the University of Montreal, where he worked on various projects in asymmetric synthesis and medicinal chemistry, including a drug discovery program with a pharmaceutical company.

Agenda Day 1

9:15 AM Beyond Automation: Orchestration, Robots, and AI from Discovery to Production on Demand

The pharmaceutical industry is accelerating toward an era of AI-augmented and self-driving laboratories, where human expertise is amplified by intelligent automation and data-driven orchestration. Yet the success of this transformation depends on a critical foundation: AI-ready, interoperable data.

In this joint presentation, SciY and NovAliX share how digitalization platforms, automation, and applied AI are converging to reshape experimental design, process optimization, and manufacturing. Real-world examples, from reaction screening and structure verification to AI-piloted continuous manufacturing (PIPAc), will illustrate how FAIR data principles, semantic standardization, and orchestration across instruments, robotics, and enterprise systems unlock new levels of scientific efficiency and agility.

Key discussion points include:

• Designing a robust data strategy that bridges discovery, development, and manufacturing.

• Implementing closed-loop experimentation and real-time process optimization through intelligent orchestration layers.

• Demonstrating AI agents trained in digital twins to autonomously adjust reaction conditions for yield and safety.

• Empowering scientists as AI-augmented decision-makers in a connected ecosystem spanning CROs, CDMOs, and internal labs.

Together, SciY and NovAliX will showcase how collaborative innovation and vendor-agnostic digital infrastructure are making the vision of truly smart, data-driven laboratories a practical reality today.
