3:45 PM KEYNOTE: ADVANCING SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH PHARMA TAKE-BACK INITIATIVES

As part of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, launched by King Charles III, a consortium of leading pharmaceutical companies has been collaborating on an ambitious take-back programme designed to improve sustainability across the industry. Scheduled for rollout in Q2 2027, the initiative focuses on collecting used drug delivery devices so they can be repurposed, reducing waste and supporting a more circular healthcare economy.

Representing Roche and the consortium, Gideon Brunner will provide an insider's perspective on the development of the programme and how the initiative delivers measurable, meaningful action.

Following the presentation, we will open the discussion to the wider conference audience to explore how pharma organisations of all sizes can play a role in driving practical sustainability initiatives across the value chain.

Key discussion points include:

  • Moving beyond greenwashing: what meaningful sustainability looks like in practice.
  • The role of contract manufacturers in supporting circular economy initiatives.
  • Opportunities for collaboration across the pharmaceutical supply chain.
  • Overcoming barriers to implementing sustainable manufacturing and product lifecycle strategies.
