Trust in pharma has grown since the pandemic, survey finds

Leila Hawkins | 04/29/2022

Trust in the pharmaceutical sector has increased since the Covid-19 pandemic took hold in 2020, a new report has found.

The 2022 Edelman Trust Barometer survey asked 10,000 respondents from 10 different countries about their trust in different areas of the healthcare system, including hospitals, health insurers, pharmacists and the pharma and biotech industries.

The research found that 61 percent of participants trusted the pharmaceutical sector, a rise of six points since before the pandemic began in 2020.

Despite this increase, the pharmaceutical sector is the least trusted subsector of healthcare, with the three most trusted areas being hospitals and local pharmacies with 76 percent of the vote each, followed by health insurers with 67 percent.

The survey also found that people with lower trust in health systems are far less likely to be vaccinated. 82 percent of people who were vaccinated reported high levels of trust in healthcare systems.
