The George Institute has recently appointed Professor Zhi-Jie Zheng - a prominent researcher and epidemiologist, as the new Executive Director for its operations in China. For over 30 years, Professor Zheng has held senior leadership positions within clinical and public health programs in the United States, such as the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the National Institute of Health. In addition, Professor Zheng has also served on committees, task forces and workgroups for government agencies in the United States and China.

Research areas such as epidemiology of complex diseases, health outcomes research, health education and health care reform have been Professor Zheng’s main focus.  Professor Zheng’s research experience will assist in the growth and development of impactful research programs in China.

In parallel to his new role as the Institute’s Executive Director of China, Professor Zheng will continue his academic appointment as University Distinguished Professor of Public Health and Medicine, as well as Dean of the School of Public Health at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This will bring a new collaborative partnership between The George Institute and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, one of China’s most renowned academic institutions, and help propel global-level research on clinical, population and healthcare services, which will beparticularly significant for George Clinical.

“Shanghai Jiao Tong is affiliated with 14 research hospitals, so we are confident this will open up new research networks for us in China. Their networks in oncology, paediatrics and auto-immune diseases will complement our existing networks of cardiovascular and stroke, and strengthen our real world epidemiological experience,” says Philip Gregory, General Manager of George Clinical China.

George Clinical is the clinical trial delivery arm of the George Institute. Both organizations have been working in China for over 10 years, and welcome this appointment as an opportunity to further build clinical research and clinical trial opportunities in China.
