Mark Edwards, Global Freight Manager from Actavis and John Franks, Security Director EMEA from Merck Sharp & Dohme, joined forces in order to explore how patient safety could be improved by protecting pharmacies and distributors from supply chain infiltration.

Their presentation will be part of the 2nd annual Pharmaceutical Anti-Counterfeiting conference taking place in Amsterdam, from the 16th -17th of February 2011. The aim of the event is to tackle the growing problem of pharmaceutical counterfeiting. Recent figures from the EU Commission show that in 2009 alone almost 12 million pharmaceutical articles were seized by customs agencies at the external EU border; 10% of all seizures.

The event will facilitate the latest counterfeit-busting strategies, techniques and technology, with new case studies from world-leading pharmaceutical companies and presentations on the latest in innovative anti-counterfeiting technology.
