Professor Ann Logan, Lead Professor, University of Birmingham, joins Helen Winsor Pharma IQ, to discuss next-generation DNA sequencing. Logan reports on her laboratory’s primary research into the role of the intravitreal inflammation in the axon regeneration in the visual system and how it is building on knowledge of the topic. She discusses how best practice techniques resonate in the success of the research to date – in the areas of primary and cell line RGC and glia cultures, in vivo models of optic nerve regeneration and microarray/proteomics. Logan also comments on the impact the findings will have on neuropharmacology and neurobiology and how the research might translate from bench to bedside. Finally, she discusses ocular neuroprotection and the challenges encountered with siRNA Targeting of the Caspase-2 Gene.
