Peter Kjaer, Head of Patents at Lego, joins Helen Winsor from Pharma IQ, to discuss intellectual property right trends in the Nordic region. With patent trolls still a key concern, Kjaer explains why these provide an ongoing threat and why companies are struggling to come up with a permanent and effective strategy to protect their patents against them. He also shares his views on whether patent pools or multi-party licensing agreements provide an effective mechanism for preventing blocking patents, and shares some tips for those looking to streamline their patent filing process. At the Nordic IPR Forum 2011, Kjaer will be delivering a presentation on ‘Protecting your Business Against Non-Practicing Entities,’ highlighting why this should be such an essential area of focus for companies. Here, he explains the impact of patent trolls and related defenses for operating organisations; he sets out some defensive measures that can be taken when protecting against patent trolls; and finally draws some parallels with developments in global litigation: is the threat reaching Europe?
