Significant advances in medical treatment worldwide have helped people live longer and better lives. Mortality and disability rates have fallen consistently since the 1970s. Yet there are still many unmet medical needs and challenges such as growing resistance to existing therapies. Pharmaceutical research is a complex, laborious, uncertain and fragile process, which is described in this paper by the IFPMA.
The International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) is the global non-profit NGO representing the research-based pharmaceutical industry, including the biotech and vaccine sectors.
